Job Description
The Handyman is responsible for ensuring adherence to the Occupational Safety & Health Act, local health and safety regulations, and company safety policies. This involves practicing safe work habits and strictly observing all safety rules and precautions. The role requires checking the work logbook, coordinating with Maintenance Manager Assistants for necessary tools and equipment, conducting thorough pre-arrival room inspections, and performing repairs as directed by Maintenance Assistant Managers.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and repair tasks across the hotel premises.
- Conduct repairs on wooden furniture, partitions, doors, and windows, including replacing damaged wood, gluing components, sanding, polishing, and varnishing.
- Execute plumbing tasks such as changing tap garnishes, creating custom gaskets, replacing shower or sink fittings, repairing toilet handles, fixing toilet tank components, and clearing blocked sinks, toilets, showers, and pipes.
- Undertake masonry work, including rough-casting wall cracks, re-fixing tiles in various areas, and constructing pathways.
- Perform painting duties, including touch-ups, color mixing, and varnishing wooden surfaces to address stains.
- Conduct cleaning of roofs, drains, and other areas as per the maintenance plan and upon request.
- Ensure all work complies with safety and health standards.
Qualifications
A middle or secondary education is required. Additional training or certifications in a relevant trade are considered a significant advantage.
Experience
A minimum of one year of professional experience within the hotel industry is necessary. Prior experience in a high-end luxury resort setting is a plus.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in performing plumbing and electrical system repairs.
- Competence in using hardware tools and power equipment.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Effective problem-solving abilities.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English; fluency in another language is beneficial.
- Familiarity with a second language is advantageous.
