Role Overview

This is a full-time, on-site position in Addis Ababa focused on import and export operations. The role supports the day-to-day movement of goods by preparing and checking shipping documentation, customs papers, and compliance records. It involves close coordination with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal project teams to help ensure materials and equipment arrive on time. The position also requires shipment tracking, handling delays or inconsistencies, maintaining accurate trade records, monitoring regulatory updates, and assisting with cost and freight discussions while aligning logistics with finance, procurement, project schedules, and budgets.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily import and export workflows and keep shipments moving on schedule.
• Prepare, review, and organize shipping documents, customs paperwork, and compliance-related records.
• Coordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and internal teams to support timely deliveries.
• Track shipments closely and address delays, errors, or mismatches as they arise.
• Maintain complete and accurate records for international trade transactions.
• Stay updated on changes in trade and customs regulations that may affect operations.
• Support negotiations related to freight and logistics costs.
• Work with finance and procurement teams to ensure logistics plans match project timelines and budgets.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience in import and import/export operations, including documentation, customs processes, and shipment coordination.
• Working knowledge of export procedures and international trade rules, ideally in a construction-related context.
• Strong client-facing and stakeholder communication skills for professional interaction with suppliers and logistics partners.
• Ability to review shipping costs, transit times, and operational risks, then suggest practical logistics improvements.
• Familiarity with Incoterms, freight charges, customs fees, and basic international payment methods.
• Competence with MS Office and some experience using ERP or logistics management tools.
• Excellent organization, accuracy, and the ability to manage several shipments and deadlines at once.
• Strong written and spoken English; Amharic and additional languages are an advantage.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, International Trade, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Prior experience in import/export or logistics within construction or a similar industry is preferred.
