Job description
Overview
We are looking for a seasoned IT Systems Engineer to manage, protect, and optimize our enterprise IT infrastructure. This role emphasizes high availability, business continuity, and operational excellence with a focus on systems administration, backup, disaster recovery, storage management, virtualization, ITSM platforms, infrastructure monitoring, and database support within an ITIL framework.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Administer and sustain both physical and virtual IT infrastructure servers on Windows and UNIX/Linux platforms through installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching.
- Monitor system health, enhance infrastructure security via hardening techniques, and provide support for enterprise storage and virtualization environments.
- Operate and manage enterprise backup solutions including designing and maintaining disaster recovery strategies using tools like IBM Spectrum Protect and Commvault, performing scheduling, monitoring, restoration, and compliance adherence to cybersecurity policies with a focus on RPO and RTO.
- Manage IBM and EMC storage systems, ensure storage resource planning, provisioning, availability, and redundancy in SAN/NAS setups.
- Utilize monitoring tools for infrastructure oversight, swiftly troubleshooting and resolving incidents with root cause analysis, aligning with problem and change management procedures and meeting SLA requirements.
- Administer the BMC Helix IT Service Management platform, configuring workflows, service catalogs, forms, automation, user access, and maintaining ITIL-aligned service processes while resolving platform issues.
- Support enterprise databases (Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SAP HANA) through health checks, backup assistance, performance oversight, storage, and capacity planning.
- Manage UNIX/Linux systems (IBM AIX, RHEL, SLES) with responsibilities spanning installation, patch management, user control, performance optimization, and security enhancements.
- Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning to forecast infrastructure needs and optimize resource usage; also track software licenses and subscriptions.
- Develop and update comprehensive documentation such as system architecture, configurations, backup and disaster recovery plans, installation guides, SOPs, incident and capacity reports.
- Offer Level 2 and Level 3 infrastructure support, collaborating cross-functionally with infrastructure, application, database, and security teams, engaging in projects and technology upgrades, and promoting business continuity initiatives.
- Explore new technologies, recommend improvements, boost automation and process efficiency while ensuring compliance with ITIL and security best practices.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Electronics & Communication Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
- A minimum of 8 years’ experience as an IT Systems Engineer or Systems Administrator supporting enterprise-level infrastructure.
- Proven practical experience managing enterprise backup solutions, storage systems, and ITSM platforms, with capability to manage high-availability production environments.
