Job description

About the role

EMJ is seeking a motivated Junior Designer to join a team that values initiative, ambition, and personal accountability. This is a broad creative role suited to someone who wants to grow quickly, contribute meaningful work, and build a portfolio across multiple digital and print formats.

The position offers the chance to design for websites and journals, support multimedia output such as animations and video, and create infographics and social visuals that help shape EMJ’s online presence. It is a good fit for someone who enjoys a fast-moving environment and wants their work to have visible impact.

Working arrangement and location

This is a full-time role based in London/Moorgate. Standard hours are 8:30am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday. The role includes up to 2 days of flexibility to work from home, although during the 3-month probation period the role is fully office-based, 5 days per week.

What you will be doing

  • Helping produce publication layouts and page spreads across different content types while keeping to deadlines.
  • Supporting newsletter, client eBlast, and publication launch email campaigns.
  • Uploading and refreshing content on company websites so pages remain accurate and engaging.
  • Assisting with short-form video editing when needed.
  • Creating visuals for social media that promote publications and other content.
  • Working closely with colleagues to deliver polished creative output and strengthen your portfolio.
  • Providing occasional design support for other internal departments.
  • Contributing ideas to improve the visual presentation of content for clients and wider audiences.

What EMJ is looking for

  • A creative and enthusiastic designer with a genuine interest in digital and graphic design.
  • A developing portfolio that demonstrates creativity, visual storytelling, and comfort with digital-first work.
  • Practical knowledge of Adobe tools such as Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects, Dreamweaver, and Premiere.
  • Experience or comfort with WordPress and strong layout ability for brochures, journals, or annual reports.
  • Interest in learning more about video editing, motion graphics, and animation.
  • Awareness of current design trends and new industry developments.
  • A self-starting approach with the ability to manage time well and deliver work on schedule in a busy environment.

Benefits and perks

  • Bupa medical cashback after probation and Aviva private medical insurance after one year.
  • Bike to Work scheme.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Pension contributions.
  • 25 days of annual leave, increasing by one extra day per year of service up to 30 days.
  • Company social events including the Summer Ball and Christmas celebrations.
  • Free breakfast and fresh fruit.
  • Opportunity to attend events in the Wembley box.
  • 1.5-hour gym lunch and access to company clubs such as running, football, board games, and chess.

Company culture

EMJ describes its culture around full commitment to the company vision and values, personal ownership of work, and consistently going beyond expectations. The organisation emphasizes a positive, responsible, and high-performing environment.

Application process

Applications are first reviewed by the recruitment team. Candidates who are shortlisted will be contacted for a telephone call, followed by a two-stage interview process: one interview focused on competencies and another focused on EMJ’s values.

Salary

The role offers a salary of £30,000 per year.
