Job description

Role overview

The Kitchen Steward is accountable for keeping the kitchen spotless, hygienic, and operating in line with the hotel’s cleanliness expectations. The role also supports safe working practices, waste management, guest service, and general operational tasks as needed.

Kitchen operations

  • Keep the kitchen area cleaned to the required standard at all times.
  • Use machinery correctly and follow all safety procedures while doing so.
  • Apply cleaning products only as instructed.
  • Sort and dispose of kitchen waste in line with the department’s recycling rules.
  • Carry out regular cleaning of assigned spaces such as changing rooms and staff canteens when needed.

Health, safety and environmental compliance

  • Follow the hotel’s health, safety, and environmental guidelines without exception.
  • Raise any safety, health, or environmental risks identified in the hotel.
  • Report accidents, incidents, and near-misses immediately when they occur during duty.
  • Operate all equipment in a proper and safe manner.

Guest service

  • Offer guests a courteous and efficient service at all times.
  • Work in line with the hotel’s key standards consistently.
  • Respond to guest requests when required.
  • Maintain a warm, positive, and professional attitude with guests and coworkers.

Presentation and personal standards

  • Wear the correct uniform and personal protective equipment throughout the shift, including items such as rubber gloves, masks, eye protection, safety shoes, and uniform.
  • Maintain a high standard of personal grooming and hygiene at all times.

Additional duties

  • Attend training courses relevant to the role when required.
  • May take part in hotel committees if needed.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.
  • Assist with luggage handling between bedrooms when required.
  • Support other departments when necessary.
  • Contribute to the hotel’s sustainability goals by helping reduce waste, improve energy use, and lower water consumption.
