Job description
Role Overview
Cariflex PTE Ltd is looking for a Lab Supervisor to lead day-to-day laboratory operations in Singapore. This position is responsible for keeping testing activities on track, ensuring results are accurate and timely, and supporting plant operations, quality standards, and cross-functional needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct and coordinate the laboratory’s daily work with other departments so raw materials, in-process samples, and finished goods are tested on time and accurately.
- Assign work, establish priorities, and plan schedules to meet analytical demand and testing deadlines.
- Review analytical output and provide technical support for rubber/polymer, latex, and instrumental testing so methods are applied correctly and results comply with quality and regulatory requirements.
- Support the development, validation, and adjustment of analytical methods to improve accuracy, reliability, efficiency, and R&D project needs.
- Manage the running, upkeep, calibration, and qualification of laboratory equipment; troubleshoot instrument or method issues and coordinate with vendors or technical specialists when needed.
- Coach and develop laboratory analysts to build technical capability and competence.
- Carry out performance reviews, identify training requirements, and contribute to succession planning within the lab team.
- Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with lab safety procedures and participating in safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Maintain strong data integrity and organized documentation; review and approve test data, reports, and records.
- Monitor laboratory stock levels for supplies, chemicals, reagents, and consumables, while working with finance and purchasing to use resources cost-effectively.
- Take part in cross-functional improvement work and operational excellence initiatives, and serve as a main laboratory contact for internal and external stakeholders.
- Work closely with supply chain, warehouse, and R&D teams on product release activities and investigations.
- Assist with ISO, customer, and other audits, inspections, and respond to customer or regulatory questions related to laboratory operations.
Requirements
- 7 to 8 years of experience in a chemical plant laboratory, ideally within manufacturing, with practical exposure to rubber, solid, slurry, and gas chromatography techniques.
- Strong eye for detail and a high level of accuracy in laboratory testing, documentation, and SOP compliance.
- Comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team and communicating findings and issues clearly.
- Able to perform well in a fast-moving environment while handling multiple responsibilities and changing priorities.
