Role overview

The Town of Peace River is hiring one permanent, full-time Labourer for the Public Works Department. Reporting to the Public Works Foreman, this position supports the safe and efficient operation of community infrastructure and services throughout the year.

This is a semi-skilled, hands-on role that involves outdoor work, equipment operation, maintenance support, and assistance with utility and municipal infrastructure projects. It is a strong fit for someone who enjoys practical work, works well as part of a team, and takes pride in dependable public service.

Key duties

  • Operate light equipment for snow removal and ice control.
  • Support excavation and repair work related to utilities.
  • Carry out maintenance tasks on municipal infrastructure.
  • Assist other Town departments when operational demands require it.
  • Participate in emergency and seasonal response work, including situations such as flooding.

Ideal candidate profile

  • Has hands-on experience using light equipment as well as hand and power tools.
  • Has worked within a modern safety-focused program or environment.
  • Can deal with residents, coworkers, and the public in a courteous and professional way.
  • Holds a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
  • Familiarity with municipal infrastructure is considered an advantage.
  • Is willing to be on call and respond when urgent situations arise.

Working conditions and compensation

This is a full-time permanent role with a wage of $25.33 per hour. Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, and on-call availability is required.
