In addition to classroom teaching, you will help shape learning pathways, introduce new offerings, contribute to consultancy and applied research, and take part in school-level initiatives and administrative work.

The appointment covers students in the Diploma in Marine Engineering programme as well as trainees preparing for Certificate of Competency qualifications. The academy is looking for someone who is resourceful, innovative, and a clear communicator.

What you will do

  • Prepare, review, and refine lesson and assessment materials, and support learning for both Pre-Employment Training (PET) and Continuing Education and Training (CET) students.
  • Keep existing and newly developed curriculum modules aligned with the STCW Convention and current maritime industry practices.
  • Work with industry partners to enrich learning through field visits, student-industry projects, internships, and overseas programmes.
  • Advise Technical Executives so that equipment and training facilities remain current and ready for practical sessions.
  • Act as a consultant, subject-matter expert, or specialist in key maritime areas, and coach staff in related technical responsibilities.
  • Take part in internal and external Quality Maritime Education and Training (QMET) audits to support continuous improvement in education quality.
  • Assist with polytechnic and school activities, including student guidance, education counselling, and outreach efforts.

Role requirements

  • Must hold a Marine Engineering Officer Class 1 Certificate of Competency issued by the MPA or another relevant authority.
  • Should have at least 6 years of experience in the maritime industry.
  • Needs to be self-motivated, able to work independently, and also comfortable collaborating within a team.
  • Must be able to adapt in a fast-changing and dynamic work setting.
  • Should show genuine enthusiasm for education, teaching, and student mentoring.
  • Needs proven leadership and supervisory capability.
  • Should be people-oriented with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Terms and contract
