Long Haul Truck Driver

Role overview

Road Train Express Inc. is hiring a long haul truck driver to transport goods and materials on long-distance routes from the Brampton, Ontario location. The job is based on-site only, so the work must be done at the physical workplace with no remote option.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and adjust routes as conditions change, using GPS, computer-based tools, or other navigation systems to help reduce fuel use and emissions.
• Load and unload cargo safely.
• Secure any permits and travel documents needed for cross-border or international cargo movement.
• Operate straight trucks or articulated trucks to move freight and materials.
• Check vehicle condition, including tires, lights, brakes, cold storage units, and other equipment.
• Carry out brake adjustments when needed.
• Handle emergency roadside repairs.
• Complete pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections and monitor all vehicle-related requirements.
• Communicate updates and relay information to central dispatch.
• Keep accurate records of cargo, hours worked, travel distance, and fuel usage.
• Tarp freight and ensure cargo remains safe and secure.
• Transport and manage dangerous goods in accordance with required procedures.

Credentials

An AZ class licence is required.

Documentation and equipment knowledge

• Experience with accident or incident reports.
• Knowledge of bills of lading.
• Ability to maintain driver logbooks.
• Familiarity with pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspection reports.
• Understanding of maintenance and repair records.
• Experience operating tractor-trailer equipment.
• Ability to use GPS and other navigation systems.
• Background in long-haul transportation.
