Job description
Overview
This is a permanent full-time opportunity for a hands-on maintenance professional to support fitness facilities across Canberra and nearby areas. The role suits someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in quality outcomes, and wants the steadiness of salaried employment instead of the uncertainty of working independently.
The position sits within an internal facilities team and involves multi-site maintenance across a portfolio of health and fitness venues. The company provides the vehicle, tools and materials, and work is centrally managed so there is no need to quote or invoice.
What the role involves
- Carrying out everyday repairs and general maintenance, including patching, painting, door hardware, fittings and fixtures
- Servicing and repairing gym equipment
- Completing planned preventative maintenance tasks
- Attending reactive callouts and urgent maintenance needs on site
- Assisting with new club fit-outs and refurbishment projects
- Performing high-level cleaning, window cleaning and periodic deep cleans
- Ordering and installing spare parts as required
- Managing daily work orders and coordinating with club staff and area managers
- Taking ownership of a region while working independently across multiple sites
Candidate profile
The employer is looking for someone with strong practical experience and a reliable, self-motivated approach. A formal trade qualification is not required if you have the right hands-on background and attitude.
- Experience as a handyman, general maintenance worker, or tradesperson
- Confidence handling building maintenance, minor repairs and equipment servicing
- Strong mechanical reasoning and troubleshooting ability
- Experience working across multiple locations or work sites
- Ability to work independently with a strong sense of responsibility
- Clear communication and a professional, positive approach with site teams
Certifications and licences
- Current driver’s licence
- White Card (Construction Induction)
- Asbestos Awareness certificate
- First Aid and CPR, or a willingness to obtain them
- Working at Heights certification, or equivalent
- Silica Dust Hazard Awareness certificate (10830NAT), mandatory in ACT and desirable elsewhere
Candidates who do not yet hold every certification may still be considered, with support provided during the initial employment period to help meet the required standards.
Preferred experience
- Elevated Work Platform / Yellow Card
- Use of a CMMS or similar asset management system
Benefits
- Permanent full-time salaried employment with stable income
- Vehicle, tools and materials supplied
- No personal running costs for job-related equipment or transport
- Varied work across a portfolio of fitness facilities
- Free gym membership across more than 300 locations
- Paid parental leave
- Flexible working arrangements with a focus on work-life balance
- Training and development opportunities
- Potential career pathways across multiple fitness brands
