Role overview
This position is based at Banana Island Resort Doha By Anantara in Doha, Qatar. The resort is part of Minor Hotels, a global hospitality group with a portfolio of more than 530 properties across 50+ countries in Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, the Indian Ocean, Europe, and South America.
Key responsibilities
The mechanic will support the resort’s marine, land-based, and engineering maintenance activities. The role includes routine servicing, corrective repairs, preventive upkeep, record management, and coordination with the wider engineering team to keep equipment, vehicles, and facilities operating safely and efficiently.
- Manage and update the resort’s marine vehicle records system.
- Oversee repairs and servicing for water-based vessels and equipment such as speedboats, dive boats, barges, whalers, rowing boats, pontoon boats, and dhonis.
- Support maintenance of land transport such as golf carts and buggies when required.
- Document all repair and service work completed on boats, vehicles, and equipment, including spare parts usage.
- Assist with maintenance of power house generators if needed.
- Handle machinery maintenance requests when assigned.
- Carry out preventive maintenance tasks and ensure PM programs are completed.
- Perform electric arc welding and oxy-acetylene welding when capable and necessary.
- Complete minor fabrication and metalwork as required.
- Recommend improvements that raise operating efficiency and reduce costs.
- Follow and enforce Anantara engineering policies, standards, and procedures.
- Close out maintenance requests and provide feedback to the requesting department once work is finished.
- Help with daily scheduling and weekly forecasting of marine maintenance work.
- Take part in fire prevention training programs.
- Support initiatives that improve procedures and lower engineering expenses.
- Maintain important operational records for marine vehicles and engineering staff on duty.
- Ensure engineering services meet required standards and quality levels.
- Raise any pending work during the morning briefing.
- Inspect engineering areas and the marine workshop to confirm they remain clean and orderly.
- Assist the storekeeper in organizing accurate spare parts ordering.
- Supervise and coordinate engineering staff when needed.
- Work with the Assistant Chief Engineer on daily follow-ups when required.
- Contribute to the annual engineering budget review with the Chief Engineer.
- Help maintain a safe working environment for all engineering staff.
- Carry out repair and maintenance tasks across the resort, including extensions or additional resort properties maintained by Anantara.
- Work shift duties as assigned by the supervisor or Assistant Chief Engineer.
- Record daily marine meter readings and report any irregularities to the supervisor.
- Keep issued hand tools in proper working condition.
- Complete the daily work summary with activity details.
- Respond appropriately to requests when assigned a duty phone.
- Attend engineering morning briefings, meetings, and training sessions as required.
- Comply with ANANTARA safety, fire, and hygiene rules and procedures.
- Follow departmental SOPs and standards.
- Participate in the resort’s environmental and energy conservation programs.
- Take on any engineering tasks assigned by supervisors or managers.
- Cooperate with colleagues in the Engineering Department and with resort contractors.
- Coordinate with other departments for functions, promotions, and festive events when specialized support is needed.
- Serve as a Fire Brigade Team member when assigned.
Requirements
- Preference is for a male candidate.
- Applicants should have 2 to 5 years of experience in a similar field.
- Strong English communication ability is required.
- Good technical knowledge and hands-on capability are expected.
- A pleasant personality is preferred.
- The role requires the ability to work under pressure.
- Multitasking ability is important for this position.
