Job description

Role Overview

An opportunity is open for a Mechanical Engineering Specialist to work onshore in Qatar. The role focuses on supporting mechanical engineering throughout the EPC stage, startup, and handover to permanent operations, with strong attention to safety, operability, reliability, maintainability, and whole-life asset performance.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support and advise on mechanical engineering work across EPC and startup phases through to handover to the permanent asset.
  • Ensure project outputs align with Operations expectations for safety, operability, reliability, and maintainability across the facility lifecycle.
  • Contribute mechanical engineering expertise through design reviews, commissioning, startup support, failure analysis, advanced troubleshooting, and preparation of work packs for maintenance modifications.
  • Document good practices within the area of specialization and recommend initiatives that improve performance.
  • Create plans and schedules that support timely completion of tasks and help meet section and division KPIs.
  • Provide technical inputs to other disciplines and functions whenever needed to support wider business goals.
  • Oversee and monitor contractor, consultant, and service provider activities.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers in applying company integrity and reliability systems.
  • Help complete project tie-in requirements smoothly for all relevant systems within the assigned scope.
  • Maintain an issue register, track critical items, and resolve risks linked to new technology that may affect reliability and availability.
  • Provide technical support for Management of Change activities for assigned operating assets, ensuring timely solutions that preserve asset integrity and reliability in a safe and continuous plant environment.
  • Participate actively in safety workshops, cold eye reviews, and value improvement workshops.
  • Contribute to and facilitate root cause failure analysis, scenario-based risk assessments, risk screening, and formal risk assessments.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in engineering, or an equivalent qualification, is required.

Experience and Technical Profile

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in an oil and gas environment.
  • Specialist-level competence in line with Mechanical Technical Competencies.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and remain effective under high-pressure conditions.
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Proven leadership and people skills.
  • Comfortable using standard office software and technical applications.
