Role Overview

1st Step Solutions is assisting a prominent UK Engineering Services firm in their search for a Mechanical Estimator. This permanent position, based in Witham, is crucial for delivering high-quality building services projects. The role involves generating precise and competitive mechanical estimates for diverse sectors including commercial, healthcare, education, residential, and infrastructure. Working collaboratively within a pre-construction team, the successful candidate will be instrumental in tender preparation, cost planning, and value engineering, upholding the client's high standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive mechanical estimates using drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
  • Conduct precise quantity take-offs for HVAC, plumbing, pipework, and mechanical installations.
  • Source and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Prepare competitive tender submissions within stipulated deadlines.
  • Analyze project risks, identify opportunities, and explore value engineering solutions.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, suppliers, and internal teams during the tender phase.
  • Participate in tender review meetings and site visits as needed.
  • Assist in the smooth handover of won projects to the delivery teams.
  • Maintain accurate estimating records and contribute to departmental process improvements.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Demonstrated experience as a Mechanical Estimator in the building services or MEP industry.
  • Solid technical knowledge of mechanical building services systems.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong commercial acumen and analytical capabilities.
  • Experience with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple tenders concurrently.
  • A full UK driving licence is preferred.

Desirable Qualifications

  • HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
  • Experience on large-scale commercial or public sector projects.
  • Familiarity with current industry regulations and standards.
