About the Company
Wessex Garages has spent more than 35 years building a customer-focused reputation in automotive retail. With dealerships located throughout South Wales and the South West of England, the business represents respected manufacturers such as Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, GWM, and Mitsubishi. It supplies new and used cars and vans, provides aftersales support, and supports the Motability Scheme.
The company culture is centred on Knowledge, Value, Transparency, and Trust, and these principles guide the way it works with both customers and colleagues.
Role Overview
This opportunity is for an experienced MOT Tester to join the Gloucester team and contribute to the safety, quality, and reliability of the service offered to customers. The role suits someone who holds the necessary DVSA authorisation and wants to develop their career within a respected automotive environment.
Key Duties
- Perform MOT inspections on class 4 vehicles in accordance with DVSA rules and standards.
- Carry out detailed checks and spot defects or safety concerns accurately.
- Prepare MOT paperwork and reports quickly and to a consistently high standard, ensuring the scheme’s requirements are upheld.
- Liaise effectively with Service Advisors so they can relay test outcomes and repair needs clearly to vehicle owners.
- Keep the workshop area tidy, professional, and aligned with company and DVSA expectations.
Candidate Profile
The employer is looking for a tester with a valid MOT licence covering at least class 4, current annual training, and a successfully completed assessment. Previous MOT testing experience is expected, along with a careful approach to compliance and quality.
Strong attention to detail, a solid understanding of vehicle test procedures, good communication skills, and a customer-first attitude are important. The role also requires someone who can work effectively on their own as well as contribute positively within a team.
Benefits
Employees receive 22 days of holiday plus bank holidays, with additional leave increasing with length of service. A company-backed pension is included, and staff can access a discounted car purchase scheme and Cycle to Work scheme after probation.
Support for wellbeing is available through Menable, which offers confidential coaching, check-ins, and referral support. The package also includes free eye tests, flu vaccination vouchers, and access to a limited number of complimentary tickets for Bristol Bears Rugby matches as an employee perk.
Important Notes
Driving licence and DVSA training checks will be completed during recruitment. This role cannot offer visa sponsorship. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK, and eligibility will be verified during the hiring process.
