Where you'll work
Job description
Role overview
Choice Care Group is looking for a Multi-Trade Operative to join its maintenance team in Port Talbot, Wales. This is a hands-on role where your work directly contributes to the day-to-day comfort, safety and upkeep of the homes and services provided to residents.
You’ll be part of a forward-moving maintenance team with the freedom to manage your own workload and complete reactive repairs across a variety of properties. The role suits someone who takes ownership, finishes tasks to a high standard and works well both independently and as part of a wider team. The organisation is growing and is seeking someone who shares that ambition.
Working hours and pay
The position is for 40 hours per week. Salary is £29,000 per year. Standard working pattern is 8 hours per day, Monday to Friday, with core hours from 10:00am to 3:00pm. In addition, there is a mandatory requirement to provide 7 nights of out-of-hours emergency cover each month, with standby and hourly pay applying for this cover.
Key duties
The work covers a broad range of general maintenance and repair tasks. This may include touch-up painting, fence repairs, replacing light bulbs, clearing blocked toilets, tracing leaks, adjusting heating, moving furniture, measuring windows and doors, fitting fire doors, replacing kitchen cupboard doors, locating fuse boxes, repairing damaged walls, installing fixtures and fittings, and laying small sections of vinyl flooring.
Working approach
Most assignments will take place in occupied homes, so you’ll need to plan efficiently with Operations colleagues. The role focuses heavily on reactive work and on making sure properties remain safe, functional and suitable for the people living there. It calls for practical problem-solving, quick thinking and a commitment to seeing issues through until the property is left in a liveable condition.
What the employer provides
The package includes job-tracking technology, a monthly on-call payment of £130, hourly pay for time spent on call, a company mobile phone, a fleet van with fuel card, tools supplied by the company, access to company accounts for buying materials when required, uniform and necessary safety workwear, and support from contracted specialists for fire safety, water safety and alarm servicing. You’ll also be working with a supportive team.
Benefits and extra information
Additional benefits include enhanced annual leave starting at 30 days including bank holidays, sick pay, an Employee Assistance Programme offering health and wellbeing support, a £500 refer-a-friend payment, Choiceversary gifts of £75 after 5 years, £100 after 10 years and £150 after 15 years, Christmas vouchers for all staff, life insurance, annual staff awards, access to complex in-house training including management development programmes, a paid day off on your birthday, Blue Light Card eligibility, and access to Stream, a financial wellbeing app offering early pay access, savings tools, retail discounts and financial coaching. Some benefits may require minimum service periods and apprenticeship funding rules may apply.
