Role summary
This position is a full-time night leadership role at Mercure Queenstown Resort, with guaranteed 30 hours per week. The successful applicant must have full New Zealand working rights.
What you'll do
- Take charge of hotel operations throughout the night as the manager responsible for duty.
- Complete the night audit, including balancing accounts and preparing financial reports.
- Manage front desk activity such as arrivals, departures, guest enquiries, and complaint resolution.
- Check that entries, room prices, and guest accounts are accurate in Opera.
- Carry out security rounds and help maintain the safety of guests, employees, and hotel property.
- Do light cleaning tasks and keep shared areas presentable.
- Assist guests with needs such as luggage handling and support for late arrivals.
- Spot and escalate maintenance or safety concerns.
- Prepare handover notes and reports for the morning shift.
- Work with other departments to resolve discrepancies and operational issues.
- Help the front office team with administrative work when required.
- Support basic housekeeping duties and maintain the hotel’s overall appearance.
- Ensure night operations finish smoothly for the morning team takeover.
Qualifications and experience
Candidates should have prior experience in hotel front office work, preferably in a Night Auditor or similar role. Familiarity with Opera PMS and other hotel systems will be an advantage. The role also requires solid computer skills, including Excel and general system use, along with strong attention to detail for financial checks and reconciliation.
Applicants need strong problem-solving and decision-making ability, the confidence to work independently overnight, and the organisation skills to manage multiple tasks. Flexibility for night shifts, weekends, and public holidays is essential. The job also calls for someone who can handle light cleaning and porter-style tasks, while maintaining a dependable, responsible, and security-conscious approach.
A liquor licence controller qualification and a General Manager Certificate are required.
