Job description

Position overview

Anne Arundel County Police Department is hiring a permanent, full-time Office Support Assistant II (Represented) for the Central Records Section. This is a safety-sensitive office support role that involves a broad mix of administrative and records-related work. The starting salary range effective July 2, 2026 is $18.67 to $31.04.

The department emphasizes public trust, ethical conduct, and professionalism. In this role, you would interact with county staff at all levels as well as members of the public to share information, answer questions, and address concerns.

Work environment

This position is office-based and primarily sedentary. It requires regular use of computers, keyboards, video display terminals, office software, and other standard office equipment. The work may involve time-sensitive documents, firm deadlines, and tasks that affect the accuracy and reliability of downstream processes and services. Performance is reviewed by a supervisor, with independent handling expected for routine assignments and guidance provided for unfamiliar work.

What the role involves

  • Preparing a wide range of written materials, including correspondence, reports, tables, contracts, requests for proposals, regulations, purchase orders, invoices, and similar documents.
  • Entering, updating, reviewing, and correcting information in manual and automated record systems to keep files complete and accurate.
  • Coordinating appointments and managing calendar schedules, including meeting room arrangements.
  • Maintaining and improving filing systems and document control processes.
  • Creating tables, summaries, numerical reports, and tabulations from source information.
  • Gathering information from existing records to prepare budget materials, financial data, and income/expenditure reports.
  • Greeting visitors, answering calls, providing information, and directing inquiries or concerns to the appropriate staff.
  • Receiving, sorting, and routing invoices, bills, requisitions, payment requests, applications, claims, orders, forms, and bids for processing.
  • Handling incoming mail and related materials.
  • Proofreading documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with procedure.
  • Accepting and recording cash and/or checks and issuing receipts.

Knowledge and skills expected

Applicants should bring a strong understanding of office practices, clerical processes, office equipment, business English, spelling, and basic arithmetic. The role also calls for familiarity with departmental rules and procedures, the ability to work with confidential records, and the judgment to process forms and requests accurately within established guidelines.

Minimum qualifications

A high school diploma is required, along with at least two years of experience performing general office support duties.

Additional notes

This is a safety-sensitive position, so employees are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and alcohol testing. A full background investigation is part of the selection process. Longevity pay is available based on years of service.

Preferred background

Preference may be given to candidates who have worked with criminal justice records or police records management systems, understand the Maryland Public Information Act / FOIA, can work both independently and with a team, stay organized, keep information confidential, and complete assignments efficiently under pressure and tight deadlines.
