Role overview
This position is for an OPSEC Planner supporting a Combatant Command within a defense mission environment. The role focuses on building, executing, and improving OPSEC programs that safeguard sensitive information and reduce operational risk. You will work across Joint Staff, component organizations, and interagency partners to align planning efforts and ensure OPSEC is integrated into mission activities.
The job calls for someone who can work with limited supervision, provide expert guidance on OPSEC concepts, and help shape high-quality planning products and analytical reporting. The role also includes advising leadership, performing research and analysis, and supporting mission objectives in a fast-moving environment.
Key responsibilities
- Support the creation, execution, and management of comprehensive OPSEC programs.
- Coordinate OPSEC planning and implementation across Joint Staff, subordinate components, and interagency stakeholders.
- Provide expert input on OPSEC principles, risk evaluation, and vulnerability analysis during planning and operations.
- Prepare OPSEC plans, risk assessments, staff estimates, and operational analysis reports.
- Conduct research and analysis to guide leadership decisions and maintain compliance with DoD OPSEC policies and directives.
- Train and develop OPSEC programs and deliver OPSEC training as needed.
- Mentor or supervise teammates when required.
- Operate independently with minimal direction while supporting strategic-level staff work.
Required experience and knowledge
- Hands-on experience managing OPSEC programs.
- Experience designing and delivering OPSEC training programs.
- Background working in multinational settings and on strategic-level staff.
- Strong understanding of OPSEC principles, risk assessment methods, and vulnerability analysis.
- Current TS/SCI clearance.
- Bachelor's degree with at least 6 years of OPSEC management experience, or 10+ years of OPSEC management experience in place of a degree.
Preferred qualifications
- Familiarity with Joint Staff decision-making processes.
- Working knowledge of joint planning publications, authorities, and permissions.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- PMP or Lean Six Sigma certification.
Benefits and compensation
The projected annualized salary range for this role is USD 86,800 to USD 198,000. Pay is influenced by location, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, contract affordability, and organizational needs.
