Job description

Role purpose

The Planner will work closely with the plant operations and maintenance teams to keep the work management process running smoothly and to ensure its effective execution. This position supports the Planning Engineer and Planning Lead in routine maintenance and long-range planning, aligned with the maintenance budget, OEM recommendations, and industry best practices.

The role also involves coordinating planning meetings and making sure site resources are used efficiently to strengthen equipment reliability. It requires practical, hands-on experience with planning activities in a large power plant environment, using SAP within a modern combined-cycle gas turbine and desalination facility with many auxiliary systems.

A major part of the role is to improve and maintain preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance planning in SAP, while also preparing monthly project status updates.

Key responsibilities

The Planner will support maintenance teams in day-to-day maintenance and outage-related work, including scheduling, planning, and tracking progress for major activities through milestone charts and project development plans. The role also includes ensuring compliance with the integrated management system.

  • Create, revise, and maintain milestone charts, project schedules, and progress reports.
  • Implement and maintain the week-ahead planning system.
  • Work continuously to improve the overall preventive maintenance schedule and monitor corrective and planned work backlogs.
  • Follow up with the operations and maintenance team to meet scheduled or optimized outage targets.
  • Make sure performance-related and warranty-related tasks are included in maintenance schedules.
  • Support the planning and monitoring of power plant activities.

Coordination and communication

  • Help develop and apply maintenance approaches such as FMEA and RCM.
  • Review, develop, and implement proven maintenance programs for preventive and predictive maintenance using SAP.
  • Work with the Planning Engineer to include performance and warranty activities in daily and long-term outage plans.
  • Lead the maintenance team toward completing corrective and preventive maintenance according to the planned timeline, while forecasting required labor, materials, contractors, and experts.
  • Act as the daily coordination point between O&M teams during power unit and MED outage activities, and prepare and update shutdown activity priorities for each unit.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance planning and help shift the organization from reactive maintenance to proactive maintenance.
  • Plan corrective repairs, preventive maintenance, surveillance work, and modifications in coordination with the Maintenance Department.
  • Run planning meetings to align priorities, resolve issues, and keep execution on track.
  • Track maintenance backlogs and support ongoing schedule optimization.

Reporting and monitoring

  • Prepare and share daily, weekly, and monthly reports for maintenance and outage planning.
  • Check compliance with IMS requirements, HSE standards, and company procedures.
  • Provide progress tracking and compare planned work against actual progress to highlight variances.

Continuous improvement

  • Suggest improvements to planning methods, tools, and reporting processes.

Skills and competencies

  • Experience with SAP PM, MS Project, and preferably Primavera P6.
  • Good analytical, problem-solving, and organizational ability.
  • Comfortable working under pressure and managing multiple priorities.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work well with cross-functional teams.
