Its portfolio covers electric propulsion systems and related products such as traction motors, traction converters, auxiliary power converters, train control management systems, energy-optimization solutions, onboard rolling stock electronics, safety and signalling systems, and fully assembled bogies. Role Overview

This position focuses on buying and vendor development for mechanical and related industrial components used in manufacturing environments. The role requires strong sourcing, negotiation, supplier management, and cross-functional coordination skills.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, source, and purchase mechanical parts and industrial items including fabricated parts, castings, forgings, machined components, sheet metal items, fasteners, bearings, valves, hydraulics, and pneumatic parts.
  • Send RFQs to suppliers and review both technical and commercial quotations.
  • Negotiate on pricing, delivery timelines, payment conditions, and contractual terms.
  • Prepare comparison statements and shortlist suppliers using cost, quality, and delivery performance as key criteria.
  • Raise purchase orders and track procurement activity to support uninterrupted material flow.
  • Work closely with design, production, quality, stores, and planning teams to align buying activity with manufacturing schedules.
  • Identify and onboard new vendors, as well as develop alternate sources for critical items.
  • Track supplier performance across quality, delivery, and responsiveness.
  • Address supply disruptions and follow up on delayed shipments.
  • Ensure purchasing activities follow internal policies and quality requirements.
  • Contribute to cost-reduction and value-engineering efforts.

Requirements

  • B.E., B.Tech, or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5 to 18 years of experience in procurement within manufacturing, heavy engineering, automotive, railway, or industrial equipment sectors.
  • Solid understanding of mechanical parts and manufacturing-related sourcing.
  • Experience in vendor development and supplier management.
  • Ability to analyse costs and negotiate effectively.
  • Hands-on knowledge of purchase order handling and RFQ/RFP preparation.
  • Familiarity with inventory coordination and supply chain support.
  • Working knowledge of ERP/SAP procurement modules.
  • Comfort with MS Excel and reporting.
  • Preferred exposure to machining, fabrication, casting, forging, sheet metal, heat treatment, and surface coating processes.
  • Preferred ability to interpret technical drawings and Bills of Materials.
  • Preferred awareness of Incoterms, GST, and commercial procurement practices.
  • Preferred exposure to ISO systems and supplier audits.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, communication, problem-solving, time management, and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to perform under production deadlines.

Preferred Knowledge

Understanding of manufacturing processes, technical documentation, commercial terms, and quality systems will be helpful for success in this role.
