Role overview
This full-time, permanent position is based in Mayo, County Mayo, Ireland. The Production Manager reports to the Operations Manager and is accountable for planning, coordinating, and controlling manufacturing activity so that ductwork and ventilation products are produced efficiently, to a high standard, and in line with cost, delivery, and safety expectations.
The role focuses on keeping output targets on track, maintaining quality, improving productivity, and supporting the growth and performance of the production workforce.
Core duties
- Set and manage daily, weekly, and longer-term production plans so customer requirements and project timelines are met.
- Oversee the smooth flow of work across fabrication, assembly, insulation, and finishing stages.
- Track production performance, including output, cost, scrap, rework, and labour efficiency, and act on KPI trends.
- Work in coordination with Design, Engineering, Procurement, and Logistics to keep projects moving without delay.
- Lead, encourage, and develop production supervisors, team leads, and shop-floor staff.
- Oversee headcount planning, shift arrangements, overtime, and workforce skill coverage.
- Handle performance management, absence monitoring, and disciplinary matters where needed.
- Build a workplace culture based on collaboration, accountability, and ongoing improvement.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety laws, internal procedures, and risk assessments.
- Confirm that machinery, equipment, and manual handling processes are operated safely.
- Contribute to decisions around new machinery, automation, and tooling investments.
- Review production data and introduce changes that reduce waste and downtime.
Experience and technical expectations
Applicants should bring proven experience in a Production Manager or Senior Production Supervisor role within a manufacturing setting such as ductwork, HVAC, sheet metal, steel fabrication, or a similar environment. Strong understanding of production planning, manufacturing workflows, and team management in a fast-moving, deadline-led setting is essential.
The position also calls for strong leadership, organisational ability, and practical problem-solving skills, together with a sound grasp of health and safety in manufacturing. Experience in ductwork or ventilation manufacturing is required, along with familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement methods. The ability to read engineering drawings and specifications, plus working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems, is also needed.
