Job description

About the company

Engage Squared is a fast-growing, award-winning business known for a strong workplace culture and a clear commitment to developing its people. The company works on engaging projects with major customers, and has recently been recognised as Microsoft Partner of the Year for Global, Australia and Japan, as well as one of the Australian tech industry’s best workplaces in the Australian Financial Review BOSS Best Places to Work list.

As a Microsoft Solutions Partner, the organisation focuses on building modern workplaces with Microsoft technology so teams can collaborate more effectively and work faster. Its purpose is to help employees access the tools, knowledge, and information they need to do their jobs well. By using modern work technologies, the company aims to reduce friction caused by inefficient processes and close support or knowledge gaps across teams and leadership.

With offices in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Bali, this opportunity is open to candidates based in Wellington, New Zealand. The consultancy delivers work for a range of large organisations, including ANZ, Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, BUPA, government organisations across Australia, Origin Energy, and Mirvac. The team is known for connecting people and technology in a collaborative, innovative, and enjoyable environment.

Role overview

This position is for a Junior Project Manager or Project Manager who wants to take on a more challenging next step. You will support a range of project management activities and work closely with consultants and client stakeholders to deliver projects from planning through to completion, staying within budget and maintaining a high standard of delivery.

The role includes involvement across many areas of the practice, from assisting with tender responses and sales proposals to improving internal practice knowledge, coaching junior team members, and leading project management engagements with clients. A strong team leadership style and a growth-oriented mindset are important for success.

Key responsibilities

  • Create clear, practical, and transparent project plans and supporting documentation that align with the statement of work, budget, and delivery schedule.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to obtain agreement on technical and commercial project plans, including project contracts, risk escalation, and approval processes.
  • Work with the Lead Consultant and broader PMO team to support project execution and coordination.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and other stakeholders.
  • Manage resources effectively by prioritising work, delegating tasks, and mentoring team members.
  • Organise, coordinate, and oversee the project delivery team.
  • Track, record, and ensure quantity compliance throughout delivery.
  • Run weekly project reviews with Lead Consultants and the workforce manager, including timesheet-to-booking reconciliations, delivery status tracking, and escalation of issues where needed.
  • Keep budget and scope under control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain internal systems and processes, including end-of-month reporting and related guidance.

Required experience and capabilities

  • Between 2 and 4 years of experience as a Junior Project Manager or Project Manager, ideally with consulting experience delivering Microsoft 365 or SaaS-based solutions.
  • Hands-on knowledge of project management methods and delivery approaches, including Agile and Waterfall.
  • Ability to manage people and work allocation through prioritisation, delegation, and mentoring.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills.
  • Capacity to work independently while also contributing effectively to a team.
  • Self-driven, motivated, and focused on achieving professional success in a consulting setting.
  • Good time management and the ability to deliver against deadlines.
  • Project management certifications are preferred, though not mandatory.

Inclusion and candidate support

Engage Squared values diversity and inclusion. The company recognises that candidates from neurodiverse and underrepresented backgrounds may not always apply unless they meet every criterion.

Hiring decisions are made based on a mix of aptitude and enthusiasm, not experience alone. Candidates who need reasonable adjustments are encouraged to share that information. Applicants are also welcome to share their pronouns at any stage of the recruitment process.

Leave it if you'd like a reply — we won't use it for anything else.
