Job overview
This is a remote contractor role for an experienced software engineer who can support the training and evaluation of next-generation AI systems by working through realistic engineering problems. The work is centered on practical backend, full-stack, systems, and infrastructure scenarios, with an emphasis on solid technical judgment and clear communication.
The role does not require prior AI experience. The key focus is on strong software engineering decision-making, the ability to assess code and architecture, and the skill to explain implementation choices in a clear, structured way.
What you will work on
- Tackle complex software engineering assignments spanning backend, full-stack, infrastructure, and system-level work.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, refine, and explain code across different technical setups.
- Evaluate or design workable solutions involving APIs, databases, services, integrations, testing, and deployment processes.
- Weigh tradeoffs related to scalability, maintainability, performance, reliability, security, and developer experience.
- Document technical reasoning in writing, including why a solution is effective and what other approaches were considered.
- Work with the client team on technical reviews, implementation choices, and problem-solving activities.
- Move quickly between unfamiliar codebases, frameworks, and changing technical requirements.
Experience and qualifications
- At least 5 years of practical, hands-on software engineering experience.
- Background in one or more backend or full-stack environments such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, Java, C#, .NET, C++, Go, Ruby, PHP, or similar technologies.
- Experience building, maintaining, or reviewing production applications, APIs, services, databases, or integrations.
- Strong grasp of core engineering practices, including debugging, testing, code quality, architecture, and technical tradeoff analysis.
- Ability to communicate complex technical decisions in a clear and objective manner.
- Comfort with reading and reasoning through unfamiliar code and technical requirements.
Preferred background
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Working knowledge of CI/CD, DevOps processes, containers, monitoring, or production support.
- Familiarity with frontend frameworks such as React, Next.js, Angular, Vue, or React Native.
- Open-source contributions, public GitHub projects, technical articles, or examples of strong engineering work.
- Experience mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, or contributing to architecture decisions.
Engagement details
This is a contractor engagement expected to require 10 to 12 hours per week. The work is remote.
