Job description
Role overview
PlunketLine is a no-cost telehealth and guidance service for whānau, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In this role, registered nurses draw on their clinical knowledge to support caregivers with everyday parenting questions, assess urgent situations, and provide practical clinical advice for families.
The team is hiring two full-time Registered Nurses. You may work from the organisation’s physical call centres in Auckland or Wellington, or, if you are a confident practitioner, remotely from anywhere in Aotearoa. Remote work requires a fast fibre internet connection and a private workspace where calls can be taken without interruption and confidentiality can be maintained.
What the job involves
PlunketLine nurses handle incoming calls around the clock about the health and wellbeing of tamariki under five, along with parenting concerns. Even though home working can offer flexibility, you must be at your desk and ready to answer every call during your shift.
The queries can range from routine well-child topics such as sleep and starting solids to concerns about vomiting, colds, flu, burns, and other health issues. Your clinical assessment and nursing judgement are central to deciding what advice to give and what steps should be taken next. Full training is provided, and clinical leaders are available for support, but strong judgement and assessment skills are essential for making the right call for each family.
Pay and working conditions
The annual base salary for full-time roles sits between $66,222 and $94,842, which is equivalent to $33.51 to $48.00 per hour depending on experience. Weekend and evening shifts attract penalty rates.
About you
This telehealth position depends on strong listening and assessment skills. You should be able to use a caring, compassionate approach to ask the right questions, gather complete information, understand the caller’s situation, and then offer appropriate advice and recommendations.
You will do well in a fast-moving environment, stay composed under pressure, and remain resilient throughout your shift.
Because the work is computer-based, you need to be comfortable using several systems and have a strong level of computer literacy.
Experience needed
Experience in paediatrics, emergency care, or urgent care is required. Previous telehealth or call centre experience is an advantage, but it is not mandatory.
What the organisation offers
Once trained, you may also work across other service channels including live chat, virtual sleep support, and virtual Lactation Consultant appointments.
The wider package includes two Well Health Days, which allow sick leave to be used for a planned preventive health day, as well as access to learning, professional development, and programmes that strengthen cultural competence.
There are also career pathways into leadership, education, and head office roles, along with a generous parental leave scheme and Fitness Passport discounts for local health and wellness facilities.
Application details
Applications must be submitted online no later than 25 June 2026. The employer may close the advert earlier if suitable candidates are identified, so early application is encouraged.
