About the School Division
Pembina Hills School Division supports around 3,600 students across 15 community schools in north central Alberta. In addition, its online school, Vista Virtual School, serves more than 10,000 learners both inside and outside the region.
Pibroch Colony School is dedicated to helping every Hutterite child reach their learning potential. The school balances respect for cultural values with the requirements of the Alberta curriculum, while maintaining a secure and supportive setting that encourages students to become lifelong learners. The school serves Kindergarten to Grade 9 students near Westlock, Alberta, about 120 km northwest of Edmonton.
Position Overview
Pembina Hills School Division is looking for an Educational Assistant for Pibroch Colony School. The selected candidate should be comfortable working in a community school and contributing positively to a collaborative team environment. This role requires a student-focused mindset, a belief that all children can learn, and the ability to work independently while also being an effective team player in a multi-grade classroom serving Kindergarten through Grade 9.
Working hours are Monday to Friday, 6.15 hours per day, aligned with the school calendar. The assignment is scheduled to begin on August 27, 2026 and end on June 25, 2027.
Responsibilities
- Support student learning in a Kindergarten to Grade 9 multi-grade setting.
- Work closely with teachers and school staff as part of a cooperative school team.
- Provide student-centered support that helps children succeed academically and developmentally.
- Assist children with complex needs, including developmental disabilities and severe medical needs.
- Offer support related to speech and language needs, as well as behavioural challenges when required.
- Contribute to a safe, caring, and respectful educational environment.
- Follow workplace health and safety practices and communicate any unknown risks to supervisors.
Requirements
- Experience working with children who have complex needs.
- Knowledge of early childhood development.
- Training and/or experience supporting children with developmental disabilities and severe medical needs.
- Clear understanding of the duties and responsibilities of a program assistant.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a school-based team.
- Strong motivation and enthusiasm for helping students succeed.
- Experience with speech-language support and behavioural issues is considered an asset.
- First aid certification is considered an asset.
