Role Overview

As Restaurant Manager, you will take ownership of restaurant and bar performance, guest satisfaction, team leadership, commercial results, and compliance. This role calls for a hands-on hospitality leader who can balance service quality, operational control, revenue growth, and people development.

Key Accountabilities

  • Oversee day-to-day restaurant and bar operations to keep service delivery efficient and well coordinated.
  • Maintain strong guest satisfaction by delivering consistent service standards and resolving concerns professionally.
  • Ensure brand presentation, operating processes, and service expectations are followed at all times.
  • Build rapport with guests and manage escalations in a calm, polished manner.
  • Promote a service culture focused on engagement, recovery, and memorable dining experiences.
  • Meet revenue and profitability goals for the venue.
  • Identify opportunities to lift average spend, guest covers, and beverage sales.
  • Implement upselling activities and promotional campaigns that support trading performance.
  • Monitor labour spend, team productivity, and day-to-day operating costs.
  • Review sales patterns and turn findings into practical performance improvements.
  • Work closely with Sales and Events teams to grow bookings and private dining business.
  • Plan and deliver restaurant events, themed dining concepts, seasonal offers, and community-facing activations.
  • Partner with Marketing and Sales to raise awareness, increase traffic, and strengthen venue appeal.
  • Create experiences that support the brand’s positioning and generate additional revenue.
  • Recruit, induct, train, and develop restaurant team members.
  • Encourage a positive, inclusive, high-performing team environment.
  • Run regular coaching conversations and performance reviews.
  • Support succession planning and identify future leaders within the team.
  • Prepare schedules to support smooth operations and labour efficiency.
  • Lead daily team briefings and keep communication flowing across departments.
  • Manage budgets and work toward financial targets.
  • Oversee stock control, purchasing, and inventory processes.
  • Reduce waste and protect profitability through disciplined operations.
  • Produce accurate reports and follow company procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, liquor licensing, health and safety, and employment legislation.
  • Maintain a safe environment for guests and colleagues.
  • Carry out audits and follow through on corrective actions where needed.

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in a Restaurant Manager role or a similar senior hospitality leadership position.
  • Strong commercial awareness and financial understanding.
  • Proven ability to grow sales and improve revenue performance.
  • Experience managing large, diverse hospitality teams.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building ability.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for hospitality, food, beverage, and guest experience.
  • Working knowledge of New Zealand hospitality regulations and compliance requirements.
