Role overview
We are looking for a seasoned Scrum Master to support a high-profile federal initiative in a fast-moving Agile setting. This position is fully onsite in Washington, DC, at 1701 New York Avenue, Washington, DC 20036, and requires U.S. citizenship/security clearance. The assignment is a 6-month contract with a target pay range of $75,000 to $125,000, depending on education, experience, certifications, and other role-specific factors.
What you will do
In this role, you will guide one or more Agile teams, keep Scrum practices on track, coach team members and stakeholders, clear blockers, and help create a culture of continuous improvement throughout the product and development cycle.
- Lead Agile teams as the Scrum Master and ensure Scrum and Agile practices are followed consistently.
- Run core Agile meetings such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, retrospectives, backlog refinement, and release planning.
- Coach Product Owners, team members, and stakeholders on Agile methods and improvement techniques.
- Encourage accountability, openness, teamwork, and strong delivery performance.
- Spot, monitor, and remove issues that slow down productivity or affect delivery schedules.
- Support backlog grooming, prioritization, and sprint readiness with the Product Owner.
- Help teams set achievable sprint goals and maintain dependable delivery rhythms.
- Review delivery metrics and guide conversations that improve velocity, quality, and team effectiveness.
- Work closely with business partners, technical teams, project leads, and leadership to align on goals and priorities.
- Share updates on status, risks, dependencies, and mitigation plans when needed.
- Build effective working relationships across cross-functional teams to help the program succeed.
- Strengthen Agile maturity and promote best practices across teams.
- Facilitate retrospectives and turn improvement ideas into practical action plans.
- Support broader Agile transformation efforts where applicable.
- Use Agile metrics and reporting to improve visibility and decision-making.
Qualifications
Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field plus 5 years of related experience. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience as a Scrum Master in Agile software development, a strong grasp of Scrum, Kanban, and Lean principles, and the ability to coach cross-functional teams effectively. Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills are important, along with experience using tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Rally, or similar systems. The role also requires the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Preferred background
Helpful additions include a Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), or a similar Agile certification. Experience with large enterprise or federal programs, Agile portfolio management, release planning, scaled Agile environments, and distributed teams is also valued.
Additional requirements
This opportunity is limited to U.S. citizens. The candidate must be able to work onsite in Washington, DC for the full duration of the assignment.
