Job description

About the Role

This is an opportunity for a committed SEN & EAL Specialist to join a close-knit and energetic school environment. The position focuses on helping students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and learners who use English as an Additional Language (EAL) succeed both in the classroom and in their wider school life.

The role works alongside the School Counsellor at the same seniority level within the inclusion team. The Counsellor is responsible for wellbeing and safeguarding, while this role takes ownership of academic and instructional support for SEN and EAL students. That includes planning support programmes, delivering interventions, and coordinating Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

Because the school is small and its student profile may change, the role requires adaptability. Over time, if the number or complexity of SEN needs grows, the post may develop into a more senior leadership position for SEN provision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and delivery of support for students with special educational needs, including the creation and review of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Provide focused interventions and appropriate classroom adjustments to support access and progress.
  • Track student progress and refine support strategies to promote inclusion and achievement.
  • Design and deliver support for students who are developing English as an additional language.
  • Work with teaching staff to integrate language-building strategies into everyday classroom learning.
  • Partner with teachers, parents, and the School Counsellor to provide coordinated, student-centred support.
  • Take part in case discussions and collaborative planning with relevant team members.
  • Keep knowledge up to date through ongoing professional learning in SEN and EAL practice.
  • Maintain clear records and contribute to meetings, reviews, and training sessions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A degree in Education or another closely related subject is required.
  • Applicants must have formal qualifications and demonstrated experience supporting SEN learners.
  • Experience or certification in EAL teaching is highly desirable.
  • A strong understanding of inclusive teaching and differentiated instruction is preferred.

Reporting and Working Arrangements

This position reports directly to the Head of School.

The successful candidate will work in parallel with the School Counsellor as part of the inclusion team.

The exact scope of SEN leadership may change depending on the needs of the student body and the qualifications and experience of the team.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary will be determined based on relevant qualifications and experience.

Accommodation is provided as an additional benefit at no extra cost to staff.

Technology in Recruitment

The organisation uses AI-enabled tools to assist with recruitment administration, including communication handling and application organisation. Final hiring decisions are always made by a member of the team.
