Role overview
This position sits within Oracle’s Corporate Accounting function, part of the broader finance organization that supports external reporting, statutory reporting, compliance, fiduciary duties, and merger and acquisition activity. The team works across US GAAP reporting and local compliance responsibilities while helping safeguard the interests of Oracle Corporation and its managed legal entities.
The Senior Accountant will partner closely with the Finance Director and support the Board’s fiduciary responsibilities by helping ensure compliance, accurate reporting, and strong governance across legal entities managed by Corporate Accounting.
What the role involves
The work covers accounting support for acquired entities, monthly/quarterly/annual legal-entity financial reporting under US GAAP, analysis of financial results, risk identification, and the delivery of process improvements and innovation initiatives. The role also has a governance focus, ensuring Oracle entities follow internal policies and procedures that help protect shareholder value.
This is a highly collaborative role with regular interaction across Finance, Global Controller Organization, Tax, Treasury, Legal, Global Business Finance, Technical Accounting, External Reporting, and SOX teams.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to monthly and quarterly close activities, ensuring legal-entity reporting is completed on time and aligned with corporate close standards.
- Support consolidation of Oracle entities, with particular attention to acquired businesses, including preparation of journal entries and review of income statement and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare accounting entries related to integration and reorganization work for acquired companies and Oracle entities.
- Examine account reconciliations for selected acquired entities and company codes to confirm they are reasonable and properly supported.
- Assist regional Financial Controllers with day-to-day work while maintaining compliance with Oracle policies and US GAAP reporting requirements.
- Work with global finance partners such as Business Finance, Tax, Treasury, and Legal on shared deliverables.
- Take part in global and regional initiatives aimed at improving operations within the Chief Accounting Officer organization.
- Research historical transactions and evaluate prior events to determine the correct accounting treatment going forward.
- Support Internal Audit and the SOX PMO in evaluating internal controls, implementing corrective actions, strengthening controls where gaps exist, and keeping process documentation current.
- Serve as a point of reference for teammates by guiding and mentoring others when needed.
- Coordinate with the Tax team on information requests from tax authorities and during audits.
- Help implement stronger system processes and controls so the corporation and legal entities meet internal and external financial reporting obligations.
Requirements
- Professional accounting qualification is mandatory, with Chartered Accountant status required.
- A bachelor’s degree in Commerce or Business Administration is required; an MBA is considered an advantage.
- Up to 2 years of relevant progressive experience in technology companies, multinational or Fortune 500 environments, or in public accounting at a top 10 firm.
- Background in corporate accounting, consolidation, and intercompany processes is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, curiosity, and a quick-learning mindset.
- Ability to interpret accounting standards and apply them to practical situations; hands-on experience is beneficial.
- Problem-solving approach with the ability to understand issues deeply and suggest solutions.
- Comfort working across multiple locations and adapting to different cultures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.
- Working knowledge of US GAAP, finance, and tax regulations.
- Exposure to ERP systems; experience with Oracle Financials or other ERP tools is an advantage.
- Project management capability, including planning, initiating, tracking, and executing work within a team.
- Self-driven, proactive, and able to manage several priorities at once.
- Analytical, troubleshooting-oriented, innovative, and focused on resolving issues.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills for interacting with different management levels.
- Ability to support continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
- Willingness to work US hours, including close-day schedules from 9:30 PM to 6:30 AM India time for about 4 to 5 days, and other days from 6:00 PM to 3:00 AM India time.
