Job description

Role overview

Magic Spoon is hiring a Senior Category Manager to join its Sales Strategy and Planning team. This person should bring strong breakfast-category enthusiasm, deep experience with syndicated scan data such as Spins, and a solid understanding of the consumer packaged goods retail sales process. The role is designed for someone who can work comfortably across several categories, influence stakeholders effectively, and thrive in a fast-moving environment.

The focus of the position is to use data and analytics to strengthen performance with current customers, while also telling a compelling category story that helps win new retail partners and broaden distribution. As the only Category Manager on the team, this individual will need to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.

This is a full-time remote position reporting to the Senior Director of Sales Strategy and Planning.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the company’s go-to expert on category behavior, shopper behavior, channel movement, and the competitive environment.
  • Lead analysis of consumption data to measure marketing and trade performance, surface broad market trends, and turn those findings into practical business actions.
  • Design and oversee the end-to-end insights framework so that tools, data inputs, and analytics capabilities grow with the business.
  • Create retailer-specific growth ideas and tactical recommendations that support Magic Spoon’s priorities, with particular attention on the most important customers.
  • Equip the sales organization with data-driven selling materials that strengthen the brand’s story, support retail partner conversations, and help drive distribution, shelf presence, and merchandising gains.
  • Build and manage KPI dashboards and executive reporting tools that track category results and support decision-making at the leadership level.
  • Work closely with Sales, Marketing, Innovation, and Leadership to provide the insights, tools, and analytics each team needs.
  • Develop trusted relationships with external partners and serve as the main contact to ensure the company uses each platform’s full capabilities while reflecting Magic Spoon’s mission, culture, and values.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of category management experience in consumer goods or food retail.
  • Strong hands-on experience using Spins, Nielsen, and IRI/Circana data to support retail selling.
  • Excellent analytical judgment with the ability to translate data into sound business decisions.
  • Working knowledge of natural and grocery retail, the CPG sales process, and collaboration with sales teams and brokers.
  • Ability to partner effectively across functions and engage stakeholders from retail teams through C-suite leadership.
  • Strong verbal, presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Comfort in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting.
  • Advanced ability in Google Sheets, Google Slides, Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and an eagerness to adopt AI tools and platforms.

Benefits and compensation

  • Competitive base pay plus equity.
  • Bonus eligibility.
  • Health, vision, and dental coverage paid at 100%, with 50% of dependent coverage paid by the company.
  • 401(k) plan with company match.
  • Generous parental leave.
  • Flexible vacation policy.
  • Paid company holidays.
  • Paid sick leave.
  • Catered lunch at the office.
  • Dog-friendly office environment.
  • Unlimited cereal.
