Job description

Overview

Canva is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join its Finance Data & Analytics group in San Francisco. The role sits within a team that supports the Revenue Accounting function by turning financial data into practical, reusable assets that help month-end and quarter-end close work run smoothly. The position is part of a company that operates with flexibility in how and where people work, while the US operations are based in San Francisco.

What the role focuses on

  • Building automated revenue data flows that are traceable, immutable, and suitable for external audit requirements.
  • Cutting down manual reconciliation work by introducing automation and detecting anomalies.
  • Strengthening the accuracy and completeness of revenue information in the Finance data warehouse across payment gateway and billing-service data sources.
  • Creating dashboards, presentations, and reports that clearly convey findings to both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Partnering with cross-functional teams to improve how data is collected, prepared, and maintained.

About the team

The Finance Data & Analytics team is part of Canva's broader mission to empower the world to design. The business has scaled rapidly and now handles very large volumes of data every day. The team needs someone who can go beyond answering questions and act as a strong data partner for the finance team and the wider business.

This role is especially focused on helping the Revenue Accounting team by building dependable datasets and reporting that support close activities and ongoing financial operations.

What makes a strong fit

  • Hands-on experience with at least one data analysis language such as SQL, Python, or R.
  • Strong practical ability with analysis tools and workflows, including advanced Excel or similar tools such as Alteryx, Tableau Prep, or Knime.
  • Experience using BI and visualisation platforms such as Mode, Tableau, Looker, MicroStrategy, or Power BI.
  • Clear communication skills, with care for accuracy, faithful interpretation of data, confident presentation, and concise writing.
  • A solid foundation in mathematics or statistics.
  • A bachelor's degree in a STEM field.
  • Previous experience in a technology company and familiarity with concepts such as growth accounting, product funnels, and analytic event design.

Compensation and benefits

The expected salary range for this role is USD 173,000 to USD 268,000 per year. Final compensation is determined using market data, skills, experience, and internal equity.

  • Equity packages so employees can share in the company's success.
  • Health coverage options to support wellbeing.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company contribution.
  • Inclusive parental leave for all parents and carers.
  • Annual Vibe & Thrive allowance for wellbeing, social connection, office setup, and more.
  • Flexible leave options to help with rest, personal needs, and community impact.
