Job description
Position overview
The Senior Project Manager will oversee the delivery of growth and sustaining capital work at a refinery site in Cork, County Cork, Ireland. In this role, you will report directly to the onsite leader and receive support from the Project Execution and Growth Portfolio team based at the home office. The position calls for strong leadership, disciplined project governance, and close coordination with engineering, supply chain, construction, and operations teams to deliver capital programs safely and reliably.
Applicants must already have legal permission to work in Ireland and be available to begin immediately.
Project delivery
- Take charge of both newly emerging growth initiatives and active growth projects already underway at the refinery.
- Assume ownership of live projects after a structured two-week handover from the outgoing Senior Project Manager.
- Deliver projects in line with expectations for safety, reliability, cost, schedule, and quality.
Front-end engineering and business case development
- Partner with front-end engineering teams to build strong business cases using the standard business model.
- Guide projects through the organization’s authorization and stage-gate approval process.
Engineering, procurement, and construction management
- Coordinate with onsite teams to obtain the needed engineering support, whether onsite or through contractors.
- Oversee purchasing of materials and services together with the Supply Management team.
- Engage and direct onsite or contract construction resources so project work is planned and carried out safely and efficiently.
- Contribute execution insight and constructability input during design development.
Sustaining capital end-of-life equipment program
- Lead the annual sustaining capital program focused on replacing equipment that has reached end of life.
- Keep a rolling six-year business plan current, aligned with refinery and corporate capital planning cycles and plant turnaround schedules.
- Work closely with Operations to identify assets that need replacement.
- Prepare and deliver monthly reporting and status updates.
Additional responsibilities
- Take on extra projects as needed, depending on business needs and available bandwidth.
- Oversee vendors, including shop visits, progress checks, and direct follow-up when necessary.
- Provide independent review and support for other portfolio projects across the organization when requested.
Key competencies
The ideal candidate brings deep capital project delivery experience, the ability to manage several stakeholders at once, familiarity with stage-gate governance and business case development, and a consistent focus on safety, operational reliability, and performance excellence.
