Sexton/Greenspace Operator

About the role

Downer is looking for a hands-on Sexton/Greenspace Operator to help care for parks, reserves, and cemetery areas in Tauriko, Tauranga. This role combines outdoor grounds maintenance with cemetery support work, so it suits someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in how spaces look, and understands the importance of respectful service to the community.

What you’ll do

In this role, you will maintain community spaces and support burial and interment activities when required. The work is varied and may involve machinery operation, grounds care, cemetery preparation, and professional interaction with funeral directors and the public.

• Drive tractors, ride-on mowers, weed eaters, and other grounds care equipment
• Keep cemetery grounds neat, safe, and well presented
• Prepare burial plots, attend services, and restore sites after burials and ash interments
• Communicate courteously with funeral directors and members of the public
• Assist with other Greenspaces duties as needed
• Take part in occasional weekend shifts
