About the Role
The Talbot Group, in collaboration with University College Cork (UCC), is offering a unique 3-year Apprenticeship in Social Care. This program is designed for individuals passionate about making a significant impact on the lives of young people. It provides a blend of intensive on-the-job training and academic study, culminating in a BA in Social Care and eligibility for professional CORU registration. Upon successful completion, apprentices are guaranteed a permanent position as a Social Care Worker with The Talbot Group.
Responsibilities
- Provide frontline care and support to young people in a secure environment under the supervision of experienced Social Care Workers.
- Integrate academic learning with practical application by attending UCC for 2 days per week and engaging in blended learning for 3 days, with dedicated 24-week clinical placement blocks.
- Develop essential professional skills in areas such as safeguarding, building therapeutic relationships, and planning care placements.
Requirements
- Must meet eligibility criteria for a QQI Level 8 program, including either a Leaving Certificate with specific subject and grade requirements, a QQI FETAC Level 5/6 qualification with high module distinctions, or 180 ECTS credits from a CORU-approved Level 7 program.
- Possess a minimum of 12 months of experience in a Social Care or a related field.
- Hold a full, clean Irish Driving Licence (Category B).
- Demonstrate strong communication abilities, empathy, and a dedication to maintaining high standards of care.
- Commitment to remaining with The Talbot Group for a period of 5 years after successfully completing the apprenticeship and obtaining CORU registration.

Eligibility
This apprenticeship is open to individuals who meet the academic requirements for a QQI Level 8 program, have at least 12 months of experience in a Social Care or related setting, and hold a full, clean Irish Driving Licence (Category B). Applicants must also demonstrate strong communication skills, empathy, and a commitment to high standards of care, along with a willingness to commit to the Talbot Group for 5 years post-qualification.

The apprenticeship is a 3-Year Specified Purpose Contract, commencing in September 2026. While the academic component is based at University College Cork, the on-the-job training can be undertaken anywhere within Ireland. The Talbot Group is an equal opportunities employer.
