Job description
Role overview
In this role, you will take charge of the full construction lifecycle for large utility-scale solar power projects. The position calls for strong leadership to keep site execution on track, maintain cost discipline, uphold quality standards, and ensure all work complies with safety rules and statutory obligations.
Construction and site leadership
- Direct the end-to-end execution of civil, structural, and infrastructure activities for utility-scale solar developments, covering foundations, access roads, drainage, control rooms, inverter stations, and other balance-of-plant works.
- Define the construction approach, work sequencing, and execution plan to improve productivity and reduce project risk.
- Make sure on-site work follows approved engineering drawings, project requirements, and established industry standards.
- Provide day-to-day leadership to construction teams, site managers, and engineers working across multiple fronts.
Planning, scheduling, and cost discipline
- Examine and sign off on construction schedules, detailed work plans, and manpower/equipment deployment plans in coordination with planning and project controls teams.
- Track actual progress against the approved schedule and budget, and identify delays, overruns, and corrective measures early.
- Ensure people, equipment, and materials are used efficiently to meet milestone targets.
Coordination and leadership
- Serve as the main point of contact for clients, consultants, EPC partners, subcontractors, and internal teams on construction matters.
- Work closely with electrical, mechanical, QA/QC, HSE, and commissioning teams so that all site activities fit together smoothly.
- Run project review discussions and provide clear direction to close execution issues.
Quality and technical governance
- Set up and enforce quality systems so all construction activities comply with contract requirements, codes, and standards.
- Review inspection and test plans, method statements, and technical submissions.
- Ensure non-conformances are closed promptly and that corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
- Offer technical direction on complex site issues and value engineering opportunities.
Health, safety, and environment
- Promote a strong safety culture across the project and work toward zero-harm performance.
- Ensure full compliance with HSE policies, applicable laws, and environmental requirements.
- Review safety plans, carry out periodic audits, and lead investigations into incidents and near-misses.
Materials, equipment, and vendor control
- Oversee procurement planning and coordination to keep critical materials and equipment available on time.
- Assess the performance of vendors and subcontractors and ensure contractual commitments are met.
- Approve material consumption, reconciliation, and waste-reduction controls.
Risk handling and issue resolution
- Spot construction risks at an early stage and create mitigation actions.
- Lead resolution of major site challenges such as design clashes, buildability constraints, resource shortages, and external dependencies.
- Support claims handling, change orders, and commercial discussions related to the construction scope.
Reporting and documentation
- Review and approve daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports for management and client use.
- Maintain complete documentation for audits, handover, and project close-out.
- Provide senior leadership with insights on project performance and lessons learned.
Regulatory coordination
- Liaise with local authorities, statutory agencies, and regulatory bodies to secure required permits and approvals.
- Ensure compliance with environmental approvals, local rules, and project-specific statutory requirements.
Qualifications and experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
- Applicants should bring 20 to 25 years of progressive construction management experience, with substantial exposure to large-scale solar power or renewable energy EPC projects.
- Experience handling multi-location sites and high-value EPC contracts is important.
Core strengths
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills.
- Solid capability in construction planning, execution, and risk control.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management ability.
- Strong understanding of utility-scale solar construction and balance-of-plant works.
