Role Overview

Meril is seeking an experienced Stent Design Engineer to contribute to the development of advanced implant technologies. This position is based in Vapi, Gujarat, and requires in-office work. The role sits within the R&D function and focuses on creating highly precise stent systems used in the treatment of complex cerebrovascular conditions. A strong emphasis is placed on product safety, performance, and adherence to regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop stent platforms, including self-expanding and balloon-expandable designs, from early concept through commercial launch.
  • Perform engineering calculations, create CAD models in SolidWorks or Creo, and prepare detailed technical drawings.
  • Select suitable materials such as Nitinol and Co-Cr alloys while accounting for superelastic material behavior.
  • Run finite element analysis to evaluate fatigue life, radial strength, and deployment performance.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, QA/RA, and clinical teams throughout the product development cycle.
  • Plan and execute design verification and validation activities.
  • Support bench studies, fatigue evaluations, and simulated-use testing.
  • Ensure the design process aligns with ISO 13485, FDA, and CE expectations.
  • Take part in risk management work in line with ISO 14971.
  • Assist with transferring products and processes from R&D into manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of endovascular devices, particularly neurovascular stents.
  • Practical experience with Nitinol design and laser cutting workflows.
  • Comfort using CAD platforms such as SolidWorks and Creo.
  • Experience with FEA software, including ANSYS or Abaqus.
  • Understanding of catheter delivery systems and small-scale design constraints.
  • Ability to optimize for fatigue resistance, radial force, flexibility, and trackability.
  • Working knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA, and design control processes.
  • Experience with flow diverters, intracranial stents, or embolic devices is preferred.
  • Exposure to coating technologies such as drug-eluting or hydrophilic coatings is preferred.
  • Awareness of clinical needs in neurovascular procedures and experience with global regulatory submissions for US/EU markets is preferred.
  • High-precision engineering approach with strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a regulated, innovation-led environment.
