Role overview
Misk Schools is seeking a Student Assistant to contribute to the academic team across the curriculum both inside and outside the classroom. This role focuses on helping students in daily learning activities, supporting their social interaction during play and playground time, and assisting with personal care where needed. A strong emphasis is placed on building trusted relationships within the school community while putting student safeguarding and well-being first at all times.
Key responsibilities
- Support educational activities, social growth, and playground supervision.
- Take on practical administrative support tasks in the junior school.
- Assist students in mainstream classes across all academic subjects, including PE, swimming, and field sports.
- Help students access the curriculum safely, while overall health and safety responsibility remains with the teacher.
- Provide support to students facing emotional or behavioral challenges and encourage healthy social skills and behavior.
- Assist individual students both in class and outside it, including during camps, school visits, and whole-school events so they can take part fully.
- Help with personal care needs such as changing clothes and using the toilet.
- Model appropriate standards of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
- Work closely with teachers and other team members.
- Attend staff and team meetings when required.
- Actively promote and protect the welfare of all students.
- Build respectful, consistent, and supportive relationships with students that encourage their learning and development.
- Ensure students are supervised and supported at all times, both inside and outside the classroom.
- Work with individual students and small groups under the direction of a qualified teacher.
- Carry out any additional duties assigned by the line manager.
Safeguarding and conduct
The successful candidate will be expected to uphold child protection and safeguarding standards, follow the school’s safeguarding procedures and staff code of conduct, and support the designated safeguarding lead as a key priority to help maintain the safety and well-being of all students.
Qualifications and experience
- A diploma degree is required.
- At least 1 year of experience in a similar position is required.
- Proven experience working with young children and understanding their needs is expected.
Skills and abilities
- Strong relationship-building skills.
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing needs.
- Confidence in setting high expectations that motivate and challenge students.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools.
- Ability to stay organized, work under pressure, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Experience supporting students with a range of learning, social, and psychological needs.
