Job description

Overview

Rowan Online at Rowan University is looking for a student-focused Success Coach to support online learners from the point of enrollment through graduation. The role is centered on proactive outreach, individualized academic planning, and data-driven engagement that strengthens retention, persistence, and on-time degree completion. In this position, you will act as a dependable guide for students as they navigate registration, transfer credit questions, and campus resources, while helping build strong and supportive relationships along the way.

Work schedule

Hours fall within 8:00am to 8:00pm, Monday through Friday, depending on department needs. The role is expected to include at least one evening shift each week. Evening and weekend work may also be required from time to time.

Work environment

This position is based in Rowan Online’s collaborative team hub in downtown Glassboro, NJ. The role participates in Rowan’s Flexible Work Arrangement policy, with a regular blend of on-site and remote days that may shift for strategic meetings and special events. Occasional local travel may also be required to support engagement with the Rowan Online community.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of online students across degree and certificate programs and provide tailored academic guidance and holistic support.
  • Create individualized degree plans, support registration, offer preliminary transfer credit estimates, and help students progress from admission through their first term and beyond.
  • Maintain frequent contact with students through phone, email, text, and virtual meetings, and document all interactions accurately in the official system.
  • Use reports and dashboards to spot trends, prioritize outreach, and intervene early when students appear to be at risk.
  • Serve as a connection point for university services by linking students to academic, financial, and personal support resources.
  • Take part in orientations, webinars, recruitment activities, and student engagement initiatives.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required; a master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or a related area is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in academic advising, counseling, student success, or student affairs, preferably in higher education; additional relevant education may be accepted in place of some experience.
  • Experience supporting online, adult, transfer, or other non-traditional students is strongly preferred.
  • Comfort working in a technology-heavy environment with regular data use and high student interaction.
  • Proficiency with student information systems, CRM tools, and advising platforms such as Banner and Starfish.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • A customer-service mindset with the ability to build trust across diverse student populations.
  • Ability to use data and dashboards to shape outreach and intervention efforts.
  • A history of measurable achievement and strong results.
  • Willingness to learn, grow, and contribute in a collaborative setting.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not provided for this role.
