Job description
About the role
Northland Regional Council is seeking a Transport Operations and Contracts Officer to help deliver and improve public transport services across Taitokerau Northland. This permanent, full-time role is based in Whangārei and sits within a wider organisation focused on caring for the region’s environment, communities, and resilience.
What you will do
In this practical and varied position, you will help keep public transport services dependable, efficient, and responsive to customers. You will oversee the daily delivery of services such as CityLink, SchoolLink, and BusLink, making sure contractual commitments are met and service standards remain high. The role also includes managing the Bee Card ticketing system and related platforms, supporting the Rose Street Bus Terminus and its contracts, and responding to public questions and feedback in a busy environment.
You will work closely with bus operators to monitor performance, address issues, and support contract renewals and retendering. Regular site visits and operational catch-ups will be part of the job, along with checking fare revenue and completing health and safety audits. In addition, you will maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and analyse monthly service data to track performance trends and support ongoing improvement.
About NRC
Northland Regional Council works alongside tangata whenua and local communities to protect and restore the natural environment, strengthen relationships, and build more resilient communities in a changing climate. The organisation values teamwork, service to the community, and work that creates a genuine difference for Northlanders.
What we are looking for
We are after someone who can contribute strong relationship skills, practical coordination ability, and sound judgement to a diverse team. A relevant qualification is preferred, and at least 2 years of contract management experience is expected, ideally gained in a hands-on operational setting. Experience in passenger transport would be an advantage, though it is not essential.
Additional information
This position is permanent and full time. The organisation offers flexible working arrangements where possible, to support different lifestyles, commitments, and cultural needs. Applications close on 14 June 2026, and applications are reviewed as they come in, so the closing date may be brought forward. Email applications are not accepted.
