Role overview
USIC is hiring a Utility Locator in Bluffton, SC. This is a field-based, full-time daytime role for someone who enjoys working independently outdoors, values safety, and takes pride in accurate work. No previous locating background is required, though candidates with relevant experience are welcome. Training is provided, along with room to grow into a long-term career.

What you'll do
- Locate underground utility lines carefully, safely, and efficiently, including telecom, electric, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems.
- Inspect assigned areas for buried utilities, mark their locations, complete the required paperwork, and take photos for each locate.
- Work independently in the field using a company-provided vehicle and equipment.
- Use ticket and claims management systems to deliver clear and complete mark-out service at the job site.
- Support public safety and protect critical infrastructure through accurate field work.
Work schedule
This is a daytime, full-time position. Because many locates must be turned around within 48 hours, the role may require working the day after holidays and some weekends as needed. Overtime, weekend shifts, and on-call duty, including nights and weekends, may also be required depending on business needs.

Requirements
- Comfort working outdoors in changing weather conditions; prior outdoor work is helpful.
- Comfort using technology and digital systems.
- Availability for overtime, weekends, and on-call schedules when needed.
- Ability to pass a drug screening for this safety-sensitive role.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean and safe driving history.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to distinguish colors used for identifying wiring and marking utilities.
- Ability to read and use locate tickets, maps, and prints.
- Strong communication skills for dealing with coworkers, customers, contractors, and homeowners.
