University Housing, a division of Student Affairs, manages nearly 2.8 million square feet of facilities, accommodating over 9,000 students. As a self-supporting auxiliary, it operates on a significant budget derived from student housing fees. The department is dedicated to providing comfortable, affordable, and secure housing, fostering resident academic success and personal growth through comprehensive staff training and student engagement programs focused on community building, interpersonal skills, social awareness, and well-being.

Position Summary

The Utility Worker position is responsible for participating in a variety of building maintenance tasks within residence halls, pathways, and public areas to develop proficiency in skilled trades. This role involves performing essential duties to support a 24/7 residential program, including periodic weekend and holiday shifts. The incumbent will contribute to the upkeep and functionality of facilities within one of five designated housing zones.

Duties and Responsibilities

Basic Repairs (45%)

• Assist with minor electrical repairs and troubleshooting.
• Perform routine maintenance, including filter changes for equipment.
• Support plumbing tasks, such as drain clearing and repairs.
• Aid in the replacement of doors, windows, and associated hardware.
• Assist with the removal and installation of appliances using appropriate equipment.
• Conduct touch-up painting in common areas and apartments.
• Maintain building exteriors and pathways through tasks like leaf blowing and pressure washing.

Periodic Inspections (35%)

• Conduct monthly inspections of fire extinguishers and maintain documentation.
• Inspect and clean mechanical rooms, storage areas, and common spaces, ensuring proper storage and accessibility.

Summer and Miscellaneous Tasks (20%)

• Undertake summer work assignments, including special projects and safety inspections.
• Perform other duties as assigned that align with the position's scope.

• Ensure the physical security of facilities, protect sensitive information, report security concerns, and foster a culture of security awareness.
• Demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit by identifying opportunities for resource protection and cost savings.
• Maintain punctuality and communicate proactively regarding absences, adhering to leave policies.
• Provide a positive student experience through courteous, patient, and flexible service, resolving issues promptly and collaborating with team members.
• Consistently follow departmental, campus, and USG policies and procedures.
• Be available as Essential Personnel during inclement weather or emergencies, reporting for duty as instructed to maintain critical operations.
• Participate in departmental events such as move-in and move-out days, and emergency response.

Additional Information
