Job description

Role overview

This is a new opening within Severn Trent’s Waste Customer Networks team, supporting the Shropshire area from the Shelton site. The team looks after inspection, maintenance, upgrades, and repairs across the waste network.

The Van Pack Operative position is focused on resolving customer issues quickly and delivering a high standard of service when it matters most. The work is community-based and includes handling blocked sewer incidents using vacuum, jetting, and blockage-clearing equipment.

The job follows a shift rota, so evening and weekend work will be part of the pattern, along with on-call/standby duties.

Key duties

  • Carry out CCTV inspections of drainage systems to help diagnose issues and identify the best fix.
  • Work with internal teams such as the control centre, operations, and maintenance departments.
  • Perform work in confined spaces and at height where required.
  • Drive the vehicle in line with road transport laws and company procedures.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and roadworthy both inside and out.

What we are looking for

The role calls for someone who cares about doing the job properly first time, has an eye for detail, and can get to the root of a problem. You should be self-driven, comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, and able to build strong relationships with customers.

Good organisation and a genuine interest in problem solving are important. A C1 licence or higher is required.

The employer welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and values different experiences, perspectives, and individuality.

Working pattern

This role involves rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and on-call/standby cover.

Rewards and benefits

  • Salary of £29,629.60, plus shift allowance and weekend working allowance.
  • 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays, with the option to buy or sell up to 5 days each year.
  • Annual bonus of up to £1,500, depending on company performance.
  • Pension plan where the company matches contributions by doubling your payment, up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%.
  • Sharesave scheme with discounted access to Severn Trent Plc shares.
  • Dedicated learning and development through the Academy.
  • Electric vehicle scheme and retail offers.
  • Family-friendly policies.
  • Two paid volunteering days each year.

Additional information

The organisation encourages people to get involved, make a difference, and contribute to the environment and local communities.

Applicants are expected to have an updated CV ready and should allow around five minutes to complete the application. The outcome will be shared after the closing date via phone or email.

Leave it if you'd like a reply — we won't use it for anything else.
