Orbis International is seeking an E-Learning Developer to help advance its mission of eliminating avoidable blindness by building digital learning experiences that strengthen the knowledge and practical skills of health care professionals working with blinding eye conditions.

This role focuses on the technical build, programming, upkeep, and long-term support of multilingual online courses delivered through Orbis’s Cybersight learning platform. The platform currently serves more than 140,000 users and hosts a library of 150+ custom courses.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong grasp of adult learning and instructional design, along with the ability to use modern learning technologies to create engaging courses for eye health professionals worldwide, especially learners in low- and middle-income settings.

Location and reporting

This position is remote. It reports to the Digital Learning Specialist and works in close coordination with the Telehealth team, Clinical Services team, global Orbis colleagues, and course learners.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with program staff, trainers, subject matter experts, and video editors to build new multilingual online courses, including programming, testing, and quality checks.
  • Assist in delivering blended learning programs that combine in-person and digital training.
  • Help maintain, review, and refresh existing courses and related content, with a focus on improving the learner experience.
  • Carry out technical upkeep and troubleshoot issues in course materials.
  • Support learner research by helping gather feedback and passing insights along for action where appropriate.
  • Review enrollment and completion data, then apply methods to improve participation, completion, and learner progress tracking.
  • Provide Tier 2 support to learners who need help accessing or completing courses.

Experience and qualification requirements

  • A diploma or bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience, in learning and development, communications, adult education, instructional design, educational technology, or information and communications technologies.
  • At least 3 years of experience creating e-learning content using instructional design and adult learning approaches.
  • Strong proficiency with professional e-learning authoring tools, including advanced hands-on experience in Articulate Rise 360 and Articulate Storyline 360; knowledge of iSpring and the wider Articulate 360 suite is an advantage.
  • Proven experience publishing interactive courses with major authoring tools, including SCORM and xAPI compatibility for LMS integration.
  • At least 3 years of experience working with learning management systems, including end-user support.
  • Experience designing and testing responsive courses that work well across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices, using thorough quality assurance practices.
  • Practical knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, and custom JavaScript for improving interactivity, multimedia, and course functionality.
  • Hands-on experience applying SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, and xAPI/Tin Can API for analytics and LMS connectivity.
  • Experience in medical education is preferred.
