Role Overview
TRP Construction Group, LLC is expanding quickly in pavement marking and road safety services, with opportunities for career growth. The company is looking for an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist focused on Learning, Development & Training to help strengthen its commitment to safer roads and high-precision, high-quality work.
In this role, you will lead the creation and delivery of EHS learning programs that build a stronger safety culture, support regulatory compliance, and help employees grow. You will act as the main resource for EHS training initiatives and ensure that learning efforts improve knowledge, performance, and risk reduction across the organization.
The position is best suited for someone with solid experience in adult learning, instructional design, training delivery, and EHS compliance, ideally in construction, utility, industrial, or infrastructure settings.
Learning and Development
You will build and roll out EHS learning strategies that align with company objectives and regulatory expectations. This includes identifying skill gaps through training needs assessments, maintaining training matrices for employees and leaders, creating competency-based development paths, and working with operational leaders to prioritize workforce development. You will also review training impact using assessments, observations, performance data, and employee input.
Training Program Development
The role involves creating interactive training in instructor-led, virtual, and computer-based formats. You will develop supporting materials such as slide decks, facilitator guides, participant handbooks, videos, eLearning content, and job aids. All content must align with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and internal safety standards. You will also manage training records, support onboarding, and build annual training calendars and schedules.
Training Delivery
You will facilitate safety training for employees, supervisors, and managers, including topics such as OSHA compliance, hazard recognition, incident investigation, defensive driving, traffic control, electrical safety, lockout/tagout, excavation and trenching safety, DOT compliance, emergency response, and leadership safety development. The job also includes field-based instruction, practical demonstrations, coaching, and mentoring for supervisors and frontline staff.
Compliance and Safety Support
Part of the role is to help ensure training meets OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and other relevant regulatory requirements. You will keep documentation ready for audits, contribute to incident investigations by identifying training-related corrective actions, support safety campaigns and continuous improvement efforts, and update learning content when regulations change.
LMS Administration
You will administer and maintain the learning management system, monitor training completion and certification status, track compliance metrics, and prepare reports and dashboards that show training effectiveness and compliance performance. You will also support digital learning and eLearning initiatives.
Required Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Industrial Technology, or a related field is preferred, though an equivalent mix of education and experience may be accepted.
Applicants should have at least 3 years of EHS experience in construction, utility, industrial, manufacturing, transportation, or similar environments, plus 5 years of experience creating, developing, and delivering safety training. Experience with classroom, virtual, and field training, as well as managing training documentation and LMS platforms, is required. The ideal candidate should also be familiar with adult learning principles and instructional design methods.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong working knowledge is needed in OSHA compliance, adult learning theory, instructional design, LMS administration, competency-based training, and training evaluation. The role also calls for excellent presentation and facilitation ability, clear written and verbal communication, the ability to connect with both field teams and leadership, strong organization, project management skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with eLearning authoring tools is a plus, along with any of the following certifications or backgrounds: Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT), Certified Professional in Training Management (CPTM), OSHA 500/510 Trainer Certification, or an adult learning/instructional design certification. Experience with ATSSA training, Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, or similar software is also preferred. Background supporting utility, infrastructure, construction, transportation, or field service operations is beneficial. Bilingual English/Spanish candidates are preferred.
Key Performance Indicators
Success in this role will be measured by training completion and compliance rates, fewer incidents tied to training gaps, stronger knowledge retention and assessment results, improved new-hire onboarding, higher participation and engagement in training, better audit/regulatory outcomes, employee competency growth, and strong satisfaction from both employees and leaders.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to travel 30% to 40% to field sites, offices, and operational facilities. You must be able to deliver training in classroom and field settings, work in office, industrial, and outdoor environments, and stand for long periods while presenting or demonstrating material.
Recommended Experience Level
This is a mid-level role for someone with about 5 to 8+ years of EHS experience, especially with a strong emphasis on learning, development, and workforce training.
