Role overview
This position is for a seasoned Procurement Manager to steer sourcing strategy and supplier management for a fast-growing banking business in San Diego, California. The role works hand in hand with leadership to design category plans, deepen supplier partnerships, and improve value delivered through third-party spending. The right candidate will combine strong commercial judgment, contract negotiation capability, and the ability to convert spend insights into practical purchasing decisions.
Responsibilities
- Develop sourcing roadmaps with cross-functional teams so purchasing decisions support operational targets, risk controls, and service expectations.
- Own and refine category strategies across areas such as outsourced services and technology, using market intelligence and cost data to inform choices.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand business requirements, sharpen specifications, and source the right products and services.
- Spot cost-saving opportunities and recommend options that reduce total cost of ownership while protecting long-term business needs.
- Assess, choose, and grow relationships with reliable suppliers and service providers that can maintain quality, continuity, and performance.
- Examine current commercial contracts, lead renegotiation when needed, and move agreements to completion in partnership with internal teams.
- Guide stakeholders on contractual and commercial terms while balancing business needs against legal, compliance, and risk requirements.
- Keep vendor spend records accurate and prepare reporting on purchasing activity, supplier changes, open purchase orders, compliance, and performance.
- Help keep the source-to-pay process running smoothly by coordinating contract review, stakeholder approvals, and purchase order readiness.
- Make sure third-party agreements and due diligence work meet regulatory expectations and internal governance standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, business administration, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 7 years of experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, or a similar function.
- Strong experience handling complex spend categories in consulting, shared services, outsourcing, or comparable structured environments.
- Working knowledge of procurement controls and governance, including experience in regulated or Sarbanes-Oxley-controlled settings.
- Proven ability to lead contract negotiations, supplier discussions, and enterprise purchasing efforts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and turn it into action-oriented recommendations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort using procurement or e-sourcing platforms.
- Fintech industry experience is preferred.
