This role offers the chance to help shape financial planning and support hypergrowth as part of one of the company’s early finance leaders, while also working closely with engineering teams on core product systems.
The Team
Ascenda’s loyalty applications handle the logic behind converting transactions into points, maintaining the points ledger, and supporting different client-specific data feeds and earning rules. The platform must also absorb high burst traffic, including workloads exceeding 1 million transactions per day. In addition, the team runs campaigns designed to increase loyalty among customers. This year, the company is also planning to extend its loyalty suite to additional financial instruments.
About the Role
In this position, you will help build and scale the next generation of Ascenda’s loyalty platform, including capabilities such as points accrual and campaign workflows. Your work will support new businesses using the platform at larger scale while maintaining strong standards for reliability, usability, and operational excellence. As a Software Engineer II, you will contribute directly to execution, work closely with teammates across functions, mentor other engineers, and help raise the bar for engineering quality across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to technical initiatives and client deliveries that expand Ascenda’s product capabilities and ability to serve a broader set of customers.
- Keep code quality, system reliability, and scalability at a consistently high level.
- Build well-designed APIs and the infrastructure behind them, and set an example for sound software design and scalable architecture.
- Take ownership of problems end to end, including coordination with project, partnerships, and other business teams to evaluate business impact, reliability, operational needs, integration ease, and API clarity.
- Promote strong engineering practices and bring consistency to codebases and operational processes.
- Work with other engineers to share technical knowledge and deepen domain expertise across the team.
- Mentor and guide engineers while contributing to technical execution and team performance.
Requirements
- Solid technical experience building large-scale, high-throughput distributed systems in the cloud.
- Strong understanding of systems architecture, infrastructure, networking, and databases, with the ability to optimize for reliability and performance throughout the development lifecycle.
- Comfortable working in Ruby, or highly motivated to become proficient in Ruby quickly.
- Experience contributing to technical roadmaps and RFCs, including communicating technical direction and resolving architecture challenges.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, product, design, business, operations, customer service, and external stakeholders.
- At least 5 years of development experience.
- Interest in mentoring or leading engineers and helping them grow through coaching and support.
- Preference for simple, maintainable solutions over unnecessary complexity.
