Switchboard Operator

Role Overview

This full-time on-site position is for a switchboard operator in Lakeland, Florida. The role is centered on managing incoming communications, supporting emergency response workflows, and keeping physician and office information accurate and up to date.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle incoming calls and signals through the switchboard.
• Follow clinic and department procedures when responding to emergencies, including code situations, fire, bomb threat, severe weather, and security events.
• Reach out to clinic personnel assigned to beepers when requested.
• Manage overhead paging requests for the clinic.
• Keep physician and office records or documentation current.
• Coordinate communication with the Physicians’ Answering Service.
• Share schedules and other relevant information with PAS.
• Maintain accurate information on the console.

Requirements

Applicants should have a high school education or an equivalent qualification, along with prior experience working as a switchboard operator. The role calls for someone who speaks clearly, maintains a courteous manner, and works well with others. Strong public relations ability is important, especially when dealing with difficult or hostile behavior. Candidates must be comfortable handling multiple tasks at once, possess excellent listening and hearing ability, and be able to remain seated for long periods in a confined workspace. Previous experience in a medical setting is also expected.
