Budtender

Position summary

The Budtender plays a key front-line role in the retail dispensary, helping create a welcoming, professional experience for patients and customers while sharing product knowledge about cannabis. This position supports daily store operations, including order completion, compliance-related records, and general store upkeep.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome patients, check them in, confirm eligibility, and update allotment details in the point-of-sale system.
• Provide clear education and product guidance to patients and customers.
• Help customers choose appropriate products quickly and in compliance with applicable rules.
• Process sales and payments accurately through POS software.
• Operate the cash register, close it out, reconcile totals, and complete deposit-related tasks.
• Keep the sales floor and work areas tidy, organized, and professional.
• Pitch in with administrative work, packaging, restocking, and other support tasks when needed.
• Assist with day-to-day operational duties while supporting compliance requirements.

Supervisory status

This position does not include direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Applicants must be 21 years of age or older.
• Ability to secure and maintain a Facility Agent Card under Arizona regulations is required.
• At least 1 year of background in retail, customer service, or a similar role is preferred.
• Working understanding of medical cannabis and common consumption methods.
• Knowledge of Arizona cannabis products and purchase limits.
• Familiarity with state cannabis laws and dispensary compliance procedures.
• Comfort using POS systems and basic computer software.
• Strong verbal communication and customer care abilities.
• Reliable, punctual, calm under pressure, and effective in a busy retail setting.
• Positive attitude and a collaborative approach to teamwork.

Education and certifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. No additional certifications are needed.

Physical demands

• Ability to stand for long periods, up to 8 hours at a time.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
• Manual dexterity and good visual focus are needed for product handling and POS work.

Work environment

• Work takes place in a cannabis retail dispensary.
• Employees may regularly encounter strong odors, moderate noise, and frequent customer interaction.
• Personal protective equipment may be required depending on the task or support area.

Additional details

This is a non-exempt role in the Retail department reporting to the Retail Store Manager. The listed pay rate is $17.25 per hour. There are no travel requirements. The employer is committed to equal opportunity in hiring. Job duties may be adjusted at any time with or without advance notice.
