Role overview
This part-time Checkout Operator position is based at Centra in Carrick-on-Shannon, Ireland. The main focus of the role is to keep the checkout area running smoothly and efficiently while delivering a high standard of customer service.
Responsibilities
- Help maintain an efficient and effective checkout department throughout the day.
- Operate a computerized till system with a barcode scanner.
- Weigh and price products, including fruit and vegetables.
- Verify customers’ ages for restricted products such as alcohol.
- Pack customers’ purchases carefully.
- Handle coupons and vouchers during transactions.
- Accept payments and ensure the till balances correctly at the end of the day.
- Step away from the till when needed to restock shelves and monitor stock levels.
- Display and merchandise the department to a consistently high standard.
- Participate in team meetings and put agreed learnings into practice.
- Reflect the Centra brand values of being Proud, Energetic, Imaginative, and Community-Based in day-to-day work.
Requirements
- Two years of retail experience is preferred.
- Ability to balance tills accurately.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Customer-focused approach with the ability to prioritize shopper needs.
- Good attention to detail, with an organized and flexible working style.
- Comfortable using initiative and working collaboratively in a busy, fast-paced setting.
