Custodial Worker III

Role Overview

This full-time custodial leadership role is based at the Main Campus in Gainesville, Florida. The position supports Building Services operations and is classified as a Custodial Worker III. It is considered essential personnel, and the schedule may be adjusted based on operational needs, special events, or departmental priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have completed ninth grade and bring at least two years of relevant experience.

Leadership Duties

You may receive work assignments from the supervisor and sometimes work independently or with a small team while coordinating the efforts of others. The role involves leading custodial staff, directing work activities, helping with ongoing training, and monitoring daily performance. You will also assist with supply ordering, equipment inventory, and budget-related tracking. In addition, you may take part in discussions about employee performance and conduct, support new hires with time-off requests, and step in to supervise the group when the Custodial Supervisor is unavailable. Work orders are managed through AiM, including process handling and assignment distribution.

Cleaning and Maintenance Work

The job includes daily cleaning and upkeep of halls, offices, shops, classrooms, conference rooms, laboratories, gym areas, locker rooms, restrooms, and elevators. Duties cover sweeping, dusting, dust mopping, wet mopping, spot mopping, operating floor-care machinery such as scrubbers and burnishers, restoring floors, spot-cleaning walls and partitions, and removing trash. You will also care for floors and floor coverings through vacuuming, burnishing, and carpet encapsulation, follow correct procedures for chemical cleaners and power equipment, prepare cleaning solutions to specification, and clean building entrances, steps, patios, concourses, glass surfaces, ceiling lights, vents, and waste containers. Battery-powered equipment must also be maintained, including monthly battery water checks.

Other Requirements and Conditions

The role requires a Class E driver’s license. You must follow all Building Services standard operating procedures as well as Facilities Services policies and directives. A criminal background check and a physical examination are required. The normal shift runs from 5:00 PM to 1:30 AM Monday through Friday, with a 40-hour workweek. Evening, holiday, and weekend work may be needed, and shift times, days, and building assignments can change for operational reasons.

Salary and Hiring Notes

The expected pay range is $16.00 to $16.80 per hour. Applications must be completed by 11:55 p.m. ET on the closing date of 25 June 2026. Preferred Background

Preferred candidates may hold a high school diploma and have two years of commercial custodial experience. Helpful experience includes knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, use of AiM, Kronos, and Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PeopleSoft, as well as experience leading large or multiple crews, motivating a diverse workforce, delivering customer service, working collaboratively, and handling floor care for hard surfaces and carpets. Background in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting is also valued.
